Muang Sing Outreach

Children enjoy dancing and singing together at the Butterfly Children's Center
The Health Frontiers Outreach Project partners with district, provincial and Vientiane hospitals to improve health care and education for children and their families. The project is supported by volunteers Bryan Watt and Leila Srour, living in Muang Sing, Luang Nam Tha province.
Serious cases are referred to provincial and central hospitals. Handicapped children and adults – the deaf, blind, and those missing limbs – are referred to the National Rehabilitation Center for treatment and support so that they can continue their education and improve their lives.
Education
Scholarship students are supported by donations to study medicine, nursing, teaching, accounting, and vocational training, as well as at the school for deaf children.
The outreach project has constructed a primary school building with five classrooms, a children’s development center and an outdoor learning area.
The Butterfly Children’s Center
Every day children come to the Butterfly Children’s Development Center at the primary school in Ban Nong Boua for activities including recycling, sports, exercise, gymnastics, reading, drawing, games, singing, dancing, English language study, imaginative dramas and educational computer games. The Outreach Program responds to the needs of the local community to improve health and education, with the goals of decreasing morbidity and mortality, and improving the lives of Lao children and their families.
